Dotson wins Sequoyah District

TAHLEQUAH - The United Keetoowah Band of Cherokee Indians Election Board has declared Barry Dotson the winner of the Nov. 5 Sequoyah District midterm election.
Dotson received 9 votes for 64.29 percent of the vote, followed by Mary Duvall with 5 votes and 35.71 percent of the vote.
The results were expected to be officially certified on Tuesday, Nov. 6.
Dotson declined to interview as of press time.
Duvall, who had been serving as the current Sequoyah District representative, passed away on Nov. 4.
The UKB administration and staff sent out a statement thanking Duvall for her years of service and offered condolences to her family and friends.
Dotson will be sworn into office during the regular monthly tribal council meeting to be held the first Saturday of January 2019.
