TAHLEQUAH, Okla- The United Keetoowah Band’s Office of Environmental and Recycling Program hosted a “cleanup day” for Earth Day.
Earth Day is an annual event on April 22 to demonstrate support for environmental protection. It was first held in 1970, which now includes a wide range of events coordinated globally.

UKB celebrated the event with an event on the tribal grounds, where many volunteers showed up to pick up trash, enjoyed a nature walk and planted trees. The ground coverage began at the UKB Education Building, volunteers walked along Willis Road and Keetoowah Circle.
Those who was interested in planting trees walked over to the John Hair Cultural Center and Museum for plantation of dogwood trees.
The event was held from 9:30am-1pm.
UKB Environmental Director Merinda Reamy said, “Earth Day with the Environmental Department was a huge success. We just wanted to say thank you to all the departments who helped us celebrate. We truly appreciate it and hope to have a bigger celebration next year.”
