The United Keetoowah Band of Cherokee Indians extends our heartfelt condolences to the Osage Nation, the Gray family, and all who were touched by the life and leadership of former Osage Nation Principal Chief James Roan “Jim” Gray.
Chief Gray served the Osage Nation during a transformative period in its modern history. As Principal Chief from 2002 to 2010, he helped lead significant governmental reform, including the adoption of a new constitution that strengthened self-governance and ensured broader participation for Osage citizens in their Nation’s future.
Throughout his life, Chief Gray remained committed to advancing Tribal sovereignty and supporting the needs of Indian Country. His work reflected a deep belief that Tribal Nations must have the authority to determine their own future.
Chief Gray’s leadership and legacy are defined by courage and progress. On behalf of the UKB, we honor Chief Gray’s life and extend our prayers to the Osage Nation and the Gray family.
