TAHLEQUAH - United Keetoowah Band of Cherokee Indians tribal members can now swipe or insert their debit cards as forms of payment when visiting the Keetoowah Tag Agency.

"It's like we're finally stepping out of the Stone Age," said Sheila Bluebird, Tag Agency director. "Everybody kept asking for it. A lot of people would come in with their debit cards and we unfortunately would have to tell them it wasn't an accepted form of payment. It's more convenient now for our tribal members."

Previously the Keetoowah Tag Agency was only able to accept cash, money orders or cashier's checks for services.

Accepted forms of payment added to the list with the addition of Square technology now include Apple Pay, Google Pay, Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover cards.

A fee of $3 will be added to any digital payments, which helps offset the cost of the technology.
